Saint Nicholas is back!

And with him, a happy host of festivities. Parades, fireworks, processions, shows.
As December 6th draws near, all of Lorraine joins in the celebrations.

Tradition: stories and legends

Eagerly-awaited like Father Christmas, he’s been delighting both young and old for more than 450 years. Many legends surround the other white-bearded man in red, such as the one where he saved three lost children from the hands of a cruel butcher.

Gourmet Saint-Nicolas

Cinnamon, star anise, honey, orange: in the shops, restaurants and homes of Lorraine, the delicious aroma of the famous gingerbread marks the return of Saint Nicholas! Starting in November, before the big event, the first of the gingerbread honouring the saint begin to decorate the bakery windows.

The must-see events

The 6th of December is the great day! Parents and children greet St. Nicholas as he rides throughout all the towns and villages in Lorraine distributing spice bread and sweets. Each region keeps to its own tradition and ceremonies, with school visits, street parades, children’s shows, exhibitions and artisanal markets. See you in 2017 !
