Holiday from 160 €
Dating from 1720, this castle in the heart of a village on the banks of the River Meuse still has a soul, thanks to René and Marie-José Eichenauer who offer accommodation and half-board. There are two guest rooms with character, one with a superb terrace, and a family suite with two bedrooms. All together, they’ll prepare you for sweet dreams. There are no TVs or keys here. It’s a twofold principle. The unpretentiousness and availability of the owners make it easy to feel at home, along with a few other significant advantages – a Louis XV reception room for pre-dinner drinks and liqueurs, and a Louis XVI dining room where the flavours and colours of Marie-José’s cuisine can express themselves to the full. René is always willing to provide advice and recommendations if you want to do a spot of regional sightseeing. A superb park dotted with trees and containing a heated swimming pool with rollback roof, sun loungers and pergola beckons to guests seeking a chance to relax. German and English are spoken here and there is a secure undercover car park. We can also arrange a pick-up from the Meuse TGV railway station if necessary.
Cuisine
The unusual presentation of the dishes in no way diminishes their fabulous flavours. Marie-José concocts a comprehensive menu every evening of the year. As a starter, try the Three Fish Platter, as a main course Ray with Capers or Duck Breast with Brie Cream, and as dessert, a deliciously creamy Fromage Blanc.
